Pokemon GO is the biggest international phenomenon of the 21st century but unfortunately it has not yet arrived at Bangladesh. However, given the level of international enthusiasm over the game as well as tremendous excitement observed over social media, Pokemon GO is eagerly awaited by all.
Having personally taken part in the initial release of the game, I have made some observations regarding the gaming community as well as the hardships faced by fans so this post is aimed at helping you prepare for the world’s most popular game.
GET A POWERBANK
In case you didn’t know, the game has you physically navigate the real world on an Augmented Reality map in order to find Pokemon. Your device therefore needs to have the app opened so that you can easily spot creatures and points of interest. This puts an unbelievable toll on your battery life and soon you will be down to single digits therefore a powerbank is ESSENTIAL. Fun fact: the release of Pokemon GO made powerbank sales surge over 101%
ENSURE YOU HAVE A GOOD INTERNET CONNECTION
The game cannot be played without internet so if you wish to spend hours on end chasing Pokemon, be prepared for the internet bills and make sure you are on a solid network. Wireless modems look like a good option here too as they typically cost less over a month compared to mobile data from phone carriers.
GRAB SOME COMFY SHOES
Pokemon GO requires LOTS of walking (pro tip: grab a rickshaw and ask for a slow trip across your areas of interest) so a pair of comfortable shoes is a must. Otherwise you will find yourself sore and with blisters especially in the hot humid weather right now.
START AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
If you truly are a hardcore fan of the franchise and want to put in time and effort into the game, start as soon as it is made available. Go out, catch some Pokemon and get to level 5 as soon as possible. Then go to some nearby gyms and station your Pokemon there. Taking over gyms early on in the game will give you a huge advantage over the competition and your Pokemon will grow strong fast.
TAKE A MARTIAL ARTS CLASS
This is not a joke. Pokemon GO has lead people into some sticky situations and there have been numerous instances of gamers being preyed on. It is best if you have the necessary skills to defend yourself in a tight situation as wandering around places you are not familiar with can be very dangerous.
These are only some of the basics you need to prepare for Pokemon GO. If you already played the game in a different country and got a head start, use your advantage wisely. Stay safe and always keep your eyes and ears open. Make friends along the way on your journey to become a Pokemon master and try being the first in Bangladesh to catch ’em all!
