In 2006, co-founder Elon Musk set out a clear plan for Tesla Motors on their blog:<\/p>\n

1. Build sports car
\n2. Use that money to build an affordable car
\n3. Use that money to build an even more affordable car<\/a>
\n4. While doing above, also provide zero emission electric power generation options<\/p>\n

After 10 years of waiting, Tesla unveiled the Model 3 which the company hopes will finally bring fully electric vehicles to the mainstream market. The Model 3 is a $35,000 sedan which CEO and real life Iron Man Elon Musk says will be the best $35,000 car money can buy and given Tesla\u2019s track record, we believe the man. It seems a lot of other people have faith in Tesla too as the Model 3 has received upwards of 325,000 pre orders at the time of writing this article. This sort of consumer response is unprecedented especially considering that each person had to place a $1,000 deposit to pre order the car. Given that the car will not even be available to customers until late 2017, the excitement surrounding it is extraordinary.<\/p>\n

\nSo what is the Model 3 and why are people waiting in line at Tesla dealerships for hours to pre order one? The answer is very simple. The Model 3 is the culmination of over a decade of Tesla\u2019s groundbreaking innovation in fully electric vehicles. The car combines Tesla\u2019s state of the art electric drivetrain with cutting edge technology such as autopilot into a sleek body that is lightweight, aerodynamic and features classic Tesla design. From the front to the rear roof area spans a large single piece of glass giving you the ultimate panoramic viewing experience as well as a design element that even over the top exotic cars will be jealous of.<\/p>\n

\nAlthough specifications are not yet confirmed, Elon Musk has promised that the base $35,000 Model 3 will go from 0mph to 60mph in under 6 seconds, will have a range of over 215 miles on a full charge, will feature the necessary hardware for autopilot and will come with an industry best five star safety rating. The car will be compatible with Tesla\u2019s existing supercharger network too. Musk made sure to point out that the Model 3 will comfortably seat 5 adults, note the word \u201ccomfortable\u201d as Tesla has taken extra care to ensure there is enough legroom and polish inside to meet the high standards expected from their customers.<\/p>\n

\nIf you are willing to spend a bit more on your Model 3, Tesla assures there will be many customization and upgrade options available which will make the vehicle more luxurious, increase range and maybe even provide the stomach churning acceleration of Ludicrous Mode.<\/p>\n

\nThe main competitor to the Model 3 is the Chevy Bolt but in all honesty, the Model 3 already shames the silly Chevy in terms of aesthetics, features and overall level of awesomeness. Tesla has been leading the field of electric vehicles for quite a while now but has not made a profit off of their endeavors yet. The Model 3 is the company\u2019s ticket to mass market adoption. With billions invested in the vehicle, the future of the company literally depends on the success or failure of the Model 3. All Tesla needs to do is deliver the pre order on time and ensure their Gigafactory can keep pace with consumer demands.<\/p>\n\n
